Event in Chattanooga, Tennessee to be Rescheduled (Chattanooga, TN, April 18, 2008) The Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition today announced postponement of its 2008 Competition until 2009, when new dates will be announced. The event was to have taken place from June 1 through June 8 in cooperation with the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, Tennessee. According to Competition President and Director Joan McNeill-Murray, "Due to the current difficult economic climate and the death of a major donor, it has proven to be impossible to raise the money needed to stage the 2008 Competition. Our first six competitions have been enormously successful both artistically and personally, and this year we made every effort to equal that success. We are deeply committed to the competition and the conductors who take part. We will as always, present a world class event because anything less than that is a disservice to everyone." She continued, "The postponing of the 2008 event was a very difficult decision. We are rescheduling the event for early summer of 2009. I wish to thank our distinguished panel of Jurors for the time and effort they put into their Masters Classes, also to the Jordania International Competition Orchestra for the time they put into the 2008 competition." Conductors of all ages and nationalities applied this year. There were more than 120 exceptionally talented male and female applicants from all areas of the world. Their credentials were amazing. We wish to thank each of them and apologize for any trouble this may have caused. I look forward to renewing their applications for the 2009 event and to new applicants who wish to apply at that time. Please watch the website for the new dates."
