When did you first realize you were a composer?

Ans: I realized I was a composer when I composed a tango piece in my home town, Buenos Aires Argentina.

Cuando se dio cuenta que era un compositor?

Ans: ME DI CUENTA A LOS 13 ANIOS CUANDO COMPUSE, UN TANGO, EN MI CIUDAD, QUILMES,PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AIRES (ARGENTINA).

Who were some of your early influences? Who are some of your current influences?

Ans: My early influence was Astor Piazzolla, because of his music and energy. Currently I have various influences - composers such as Bartok, Gyorgy Ligeti, Luciano Berio, Luigi Nono and jazz musicians. I listen to contemporary music and from the last century as well.

Quienes fueron sus primeras influencias? Quienes son sus influencias en este momento?

Ans: EN ESE MOMENTO ME DESLUMBRO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA, POR SU MUSICA, SU ENERGIA, Y SU ESTETICA!! EN ESTOS TIEMPOS, RECIBO INFLUENCIAS DIVERSAS, COMPOSITORES COMO BELA BARTOK, GEORGE LIGETI, LUCIANO BERIO, LUIGI NONO,MUSICOS DE JAZZ, ESCUCHO MUSICA CONTEMPORANEA Y DEL SIGLO PASADO!!

How has your music evolved over the past few years?

Ans: I went from traditional Tango to Vanguardia Tango (New Tango) to chamber music and symphony Orchestra.

Como su música ha evolucionado en los últimos años?

Ans: PASE DEL TANGO TRADICIONAL, AL TANGO DE VANGUARDIA, HASTA LA MUSICA DE CAMARA, Y SINFONICA!!

What is your favorite type of ensemble to compose for?

Ans: I like all type of ensembles to compose for - wind quintet, string quartet, duo, trio, and symphony orchestra!!

Para qué tipo de grupo musical le gusta componer?

Ans: TODO TIPO DE FORMACIONES, QUINTETO DE VIENTOS, CUARTETOS DE CUERDAS, DUOS, TRIOS, Y ORQUESTAS SINFONICAS!!

When you decide on a project like New York Tango or Corales de Hawaii, what draws you to such an idea? Do images suggest the music or vice versa? How important is narrative in your music?

Ans: Images suggest the music. Personally images inspire my creativity!!

Cuando usted decide por un proyecto como New York Tango o Corales de Hawái, que fue lo que le llevo a esa idea? Las imágenes sugieren la música o viceversa? Que tan importante es la narrativa en su música

Ans: LAS IMÁGENES SUGIEREN LA MUSICA, A MI ME DESPIERTA MUCHA CREATIVIDAD LAS IMÁGENES!!

Tell me about your relationship with Astor Piazzolla and how that shaped your work as a composer.

Ans: My relationship with Astor Piazzolla began when I was 15 years old; he listened to me playing the bandoneon with one of his compositions and he invited me to his house. After that I followed his artistic career until I started playing with him in 1989 with his “New Tango Quintet.”

In my carrer as a composer, I investigated everything related to Tango, music of its 100 years of existance and all its development. Later on I investigated European composers, classics and vanguardia - and also a lot of jazz.

Hábleme de su relación con Astor Piazzolla y como eso dio forma a su trabajo como compositor.

Ans: MI RELACION CON ASTOR PIAZZOLLA FUE DESDE CUANDO TENIA 15 ANIOS, ME ESCUCHO TOCAR COMO SOLISTA DE BANDONEON, UNA OBRA DE EL Y ME INVITO A SU CASA.

LUEGO DESDE ESE MOMENTO EN ADELANTE, LO VI Y SEGUI SU TRAYECTORIA ARTISTICA, HASTA QUE ME CONTRATO PARA TOCAR CON EL EN EL ANIO 1989 CON EL NEW TANGO SEXTET.

EN MI CARRERA COMO COMPOSITOR, INVESTIGUE TODO LO RELACIONADO CON EL TANGO, MUSICA  QUE TIENE YA MAS DE 100 ANIOS DE VIDA, Y TODO SU DESARROLLO.

LUEGO INVESTIGUE SOBRE LOS COMPOSITORES EUROPEOS!! CLASICOS  Y DE VANGUARDIA - Y TAMBIEN EN EL JAZZ.

How did you meet your longtime collaborator and pianist Polly Ferman?

Ans: I met Polly Ferman in 1997 in Japan, when I traveled with the National Symphony of Argentina, Polly was the person who facilitated our arrival to Japan, for the occasion of the 100 years of diplomatic relations between Argentina and Japan.

We saw each other again in 2000 and began to work together in different musical projects such as a duo of bandoneon and piano “Binelli-Ferman” and as a trio as well “ Binelli-Ferman-Issac” bandoneon-piano-guitar (with guitarist Eduardo Isaac - also in string and symphonic orchestras. We developed different programs of symphonic works like Homage to Tango for bandoneon-piano-and symphonic orchestra and pieces of different Argentinean composers’ arranged by me and related to tango.

Como conocióa su colaboradora de tanto tiempo y pianista Polly Ferman?

Ans: A POLLY FERMAN LA CONOCI EN JAPON, EN EL ANIO 1997, EN UN VIAJE QUE REALICE CON LA SINFONICA NACIONAL DE ARGENTINA, POLLY FERMAN FUE LA QUE POSIBILITO LA LLEGADA A JAPON DE DICHA ORQUESTA, CON MOTIVO DE LOS 100 ANIOS DE RELACION ENTRE ARGENTINA Y JAPON!!

LUEGO NOS VIMOS POR EL ANIO 2000 Y DESDE ESE TIEMPO QUE TRABAJAMOS JUNTOS EN DIFERENTES PROYECTOS ARTISTICOS MUSICALES, COMO DUO: BANDONEON Y PIANO
