2008 Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition Repertoire Selections

Please indicate your selections for each round of the Jordania Competition and include this information with your entry package.

Round 1 - June 1 and 2 - The 24 contestants, 12 on each of two successive days, will have 20 minutes to rehearse and present two selections, one from each pair of required pieces. You must have the entirety of both pieces ready. You will be informed which section the jury wants to hear from each piece you have selected when you arrive for your performance:

Mozart - ____ Divertimento in D, K. 136 or ____Divertimento in F, K. 138
and
Grieg - Holberg Suite

12 contestants will be selected to move on to the next round.

Round 2 - June 3 and 4 - The 12 contestants, 6 on each of two successive days, will have 32 minutes to rehearse and present three selections, one from each pair of required pieces. You must have the entirety of all three pieces ready. You will be informed which section the jury wants to hear from each piece you have selected when you arrive for your performance:

Beethoven - ____ Symphony No. 7 or Mendelssohn - ____ Symphony No. 4
and
Schumann - ____ Symphony No. 4 or Brahms - ____ Symphony No. 1
and
Weber - Overture to Oberon

6 contestants will be selected to move on to the next round.

Round 3 - June 5 and 6 - The 6 contestants, 3 on each of two successive days, will be allowed 43 minutes to prepare and present one of the following overtures, the Ravel and the contemporary composition selection:

Rossini - La Gazza Ladra Overture or Semiramide
and
Ravel - La Valse
and
Contemporary composition - this selection will be announced when contestants arrive for competition - scores will be provided.

3 contestants will be selected to move on to the final round.

Round 4 - June 7 - Final Concert Round - The 3 finalists will rehearse and conduct the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra in concert at the UTC Fine Arts Center. This rehearsal is part of the competition. The jury will decide which pieces each contestant will rehearse and perform at the final concert. The selection will be made from the pieces each contestant has already presented.
